6th Class Trip to Kilmagig Cemetery

Last Wednesday 6th class went on a forest walk and we visited Kilmagig Cemetery. We discovered that the most recent plaque was erected in 2015 and we think the oldest one was in the 1800s. A few members of the class even found graves of their relations!

There was a lot of blank stones to mark the graves as people might not have been able to afford a gravestone. We also found it interesting that there seemed to be a lot of young people buried there. we think this is because they couldn’t afford to go to a doctor or they didn’t have medicines to treat them back then.

On our way back, we collected leaves and flowers and identified them when we got back to class!
