What we learned in maths week…

We did a maths trail in groups all around the school.

We created a maths board outside our classroom and everybody brought something in from home.

We also did maths puzzles and people put their answers into a box and the teacher pulled one out. You got a €5 if you won.

We learned how to use a trundle wheel, metre-stick and a protractor.

We really enjoyed maths week.

Junior Infants

There was great excitement on Thursday morning as Junior Infants finally got to meet their 6th Class buddies. We thought that doing a Maths Trail as part of Maths Week would be a great way to allow each Junior Infant and their buddy to get to know each other. The children had great fun roaming the school grounds looking for various items from the environment to count or make patterns with such as leaves, flowers, stones and twigs

Senior Infants

There was great excitement among the senior infants on Wednesday morning as they headed outdoors to embark on a maths trail. We have been very busy recently learning about numbers in the classroom so our maths trail involved looking at numbers in our school environment. The children were paired up and given worksheets and containers, before observing and recording places around the school where numbers were on display. Following this, each group was given a specific number and they had to collect a set of objects to correspond with that number, as well as organize their objects in a pattern. The children worked really hard and the maths trail was a fun and enjoyable way to learn about numbers!

First Class.

First Class really enjoyed completing their maths trail around the school for maths week. They worked well in teams, taking turns and making sure everyone was included. They were excited to explore the school grounds and were delighted when they came across different shapes and were surprised when exploring numbers in their environment.

Second Class

2nd Class enjoying their Maths Trail today. There was lots of teamwork and plenty of discussion as the class worked on estimates and measuring around the school,

6th class Maths Week
